From Kasane/Chobe Riverfront/Namibia (Ngoma Border):

Leave Kasane and follow the transit road(A33) through the park to Ngoma Gate. Turn left on to the paved road towards Mabele/Kachikau/Savuti (or, if coming from the border with Namibia, you will turn right on this road). Follow the tarmac road until it ends at the village of Kachikau. Very soon after the sandy road begins you will see a sign to turn right to Chobe Hideaway. From this point you will follow the signs all the way to the camp.

From Savuti/Linyanti/Maun:

You will pass through Savuti and continue to Ghoha Gate. Immediately after Ghoha Gate you see our sign to turn to the left. You can follow our signs all the way to camp from here.

Use the GPS coordinates 18°10’10.0″S 24°20’34.5″E for the most accurate directions to our lodge.

Do You Have Phone & Internet Connectivity?

We have wi-fi in the camp, which is of limited capacity due to the spotty mobile service in the area. You won’t be able to watch Netflix, but you can send whatsapp messages to your family to say that you are OK.

Orange network has the best connectivity in the Chobe region, and occasionally at Chobe Hideaway. Moscam will not work at all at the camp. Basic phones tend to have better connectivity than smartphones in our region. However, if disconnecting from the digital world is part of your retreat plan, you can look forward to losing reception once you leave Kachikau.

What Are The Local Attractions?

The Chobe region is teeming with wildlife. Our guests can take a self-drive game viewing tour around the area, or in Chobe National Park at Savuti or Linyanti.

Around the camp you can expect to see elephants, giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest. Occasionally we have visits from predators like hyenas and wild dogs. Birding is very good around the camp. Our staff is always available to provide more information about the best locations for game viewing.

Do You Supply Food and Beverages?

No. Chobe Hideaway operates on a self-catering basis. Please bring all your preferred food and drink items. We provide water for cooking. Sometimes we have beer or other drinks for sale; ask at the reception.

What Is The Fuel Availability In The Area?

Please ensure you stock up on fuel (and everything else you need) in Kasane or Maun. If you plan to travel onwards to Savuti or Moremi, please note that the next available fuel station will be in Maun. Keep in mind that driving in heavy sand with a 4×4 vehicle consumes more fuel than an average dirt road. The last fuel station (coming from Kasane) is at Muchenje.

If you are coming from Namibia, you can fill up with fuel at Muchenje and stop at a very basic store for food and meat in the town of Kachikau.

Is There Electricity On Site?

The cabins have access to a 220-volt connection point for basic electronic use, like charging phones and laptops. Please refrain from using hairdryers or heavy electronics as they may overload our solar power system.

For the campground, there is no electricity, but there are communal sockets for charging mobile phones at the reception.

What Are The Cabin Details?

Each spacious double room comes with a private entrance, private bathroom with a shower, seating area, dining area, terrace and an outdoor dining area. the kitchen is outfitted with a sink and a small gas stove, and all the basic necessities. Each unit has a queen-sized bed and furniture and is suitable for two adults.

Do You Have Hot Water?

YES! We provide a fire each night for heating your shower water, which uses a fire-heated system called a “donkey”. Warm water at the campsite showers is in the evening. For the cabins, you can tell us when you prefer it.

Do You Have Firewood?

Firewood in our area is strictly controlled and is therefore scarce. It is good to buy firewood in Kasane, on the way at the stands on the sides of the road, or in the shops at the campsites in Savuti or Ihaha. We sometimes have firewood for sale, but it depends on the delivery schedule. We provide the fire which warms the hot water for your showers, and a small social fire at the cabins.
